BTCC 2022 Calendar and Points System Revealed

There’s plenty of speculation surrounding the BTCC 2022 calendar and points system, but there’s no doubt that a new car with hybrid power is going to make its debut in the series. However, there’s only a small chance that the cars will be completely electric or hybrid, and the details of those new technologies are still to be revealed. Here’s what you should know. The BTCC 2022 calendar includes 10 events over two days – two per month.

Hybrid power in BTCC cars

The introduction of hybrid power in BTCC cars for qualifying will make the cars more efficient. Drivers will need to balance power and range to maintain optimum speed during a race. Cosworth is researching different strategies for drivers, including selecting a maximum regen to speed up during traffic. Hybrid power is expected to have a noticeable impact on racing. Hybrid power is expected to be widely available by 2022.

2022 test days

The provisional 2022 BTCC calendar has been announced, revealing three official test days that teams can use to prepare for the new season. The season will start on 23/24 April at Donington Park, where three pre-season test days will take place. This early announcement will help the rest of British motorsport plan their calendars for the new season. After the opening weekend, the BTCC will move to Brands Hatch Indy in May and then Thruxton in mid-May.

BTCC 2022 points system

The BTCC 2022 points system for qualifying will see drivers awarded one point for each place they finish. All drivers will have the same starting grid slot, but the first place finisher will earn ten points instead of seven. There are also changes to the maximum compensation weight, which has been reduced from 60 kg to 40 kg. The minimum repair time between races is set at 60 minutes. Regardless of how the BTCC 2022 points system for qualifying works, it should make for an exciting season.
