Living in Leeds, the North Yorkshire East Coast are our nearest seasides. Whitby is usually our go to seaside town but we have been trying some of the others recently too. Scarborough is the largest beach resort in Yorkshire and it is really popular with tourists. Huge limestone cliffs are the backdrop to the beach and separate it in to two sections. North Bay is the quieter area and South Bay, where we have spent the day, the busier part. Here are five things to do in Scarborough South Bay.

St Mary’s Church should be your first stop of things to do in Scarborough. Set up above the town there is plenty of parking. The church is really pretty and you have amazing views from it too.

From the church it is a 10 minute walk to Scarborough Castle which is also worth visiting. The Castle is an English Heritage site and stands at the top of the cliff.

Five things to do in Scarborough – The seafront

If you are looking for things to do in Scarborough the seafront is definitely going to be on the list. Let’s be honest, why else go to the seaside if it’s not to walk on the beach? You can obviously paddle in the sea too, but this is the UK and it’s usually freezing!

Five things to do in Scarborough – RNLI

The Scarborough RNLI lifeboat station is on the front. Having been there since 1801 it is one of the oldest, still operational, lifeboat stations in Britain. We always stop off to see the lifeboats and read about their latest campaigns.

Five things to do in Scarborough – explore off the beaten track

I am a big fan of exploring areas, especially the parts away from the tourists. Scarborough has some quaint narrow staircases up to streets further up the cliff.

Five things to do in Scarborough – eat all the food

Of all the things to do in Scarborough, or any seaside resort, the food is always my favourite. I LOVE seaside food. Fish and chips taste so good here. And you can’t go to the beach and not have an ice-cream either.

As well as plenty of fish and chip restaurants and take aways there are lots of cafes. On a sunny day it’s nice to sit on the front with a drink and watch the world go by.

Five things to do in Scarborough - hot chocolate

There are some amazing fudge shops in Scarborough and it is well worth treating yourself. Just looking at the shop windows piled high with hand made fudge is enough to make your mouth water! I have a slice of lemon cheesecake fudge to bring home with me.

  1. I have never been to Scarborough but it looks and sounds like a lovely place! Perfect to explore and discover over a few sunny days with the family and somewhere I definitely hope to visit one day with my family.
