I got an amazing deal for our recent Spanish holiday through Love Holidays . We had no preference of where to go or where to stay so booked the cheapest deal at the time. One week all inclusive in the H.Top Royal Sun hotel in Santa Susanna, including flights it was just over £400 for both of us. H.Top hotels are a large chain of hotels in Spain but we have never stayed in one before.
The H.Top Royal Sun hotel in Santa Susanna has a huge reception with plenty of staff so check in is quick and easy. The staff all speak English and are really helpful in directing you to your room and explaining the hotel.
H.Top Royal Sun hotel – the rooms
Our room is room 208, on the second floor of the hotel. It’s a surprisingly large twin room, considering it is an all inclusive room only room. Whilst it is basic and could do with modernising it is very clean and comfortable.
There are two single beds, each with a bedside table. They can be moved apart from each other, or together to make a double bed. Each bed has it’s own light and plug socket.
The room has floor to ceiling wardrobes along one wall so there is plenty of storage. Very much needed when me and Ellie travel. I still haven’t got the hang of travelling lightly and always have far too many clothes with me! One of the wardrobes has a safe in and you can hire the key from reception. There is also a large flat screen television, which has plenty of free channels and a fridge for keeping drinks and aftersun cool.
The bathroom again could do with updating but is clean and a large size. There is a bath with an overhead shower, a sink and large mirror as well as the toilet and bidet. Plenty of towels, which are changed daily and a hairdryer too. We find the shower powerful but a bit tricky to use and it sometimes changes from hot to cold, especially at busier times.
Each room in the hotel is cleaned daily, unless you put a do not disturb card on your door handle.
Our room has a sea view so the view from the balcony is beautiful! We had bad weather for most of our stay and the sea is noisy when it is rough. It is quite a small balcony but has a table and two chairs and there is enough room for two people to sit there.
H.Top Royal Sun hotel – the food
All Inclusive covers all food and drinks from 8am until 11.30pm. There is a large buffet style restaurant, a large indoor bar and a pool bar.
Breakfast is 8am – 10am and has hot food, cereals, fruit, yoghurt, pastries and breads. Along with fresh juice, tea and coffee.
Lunch is 1pm – 2.30pm and dinner is 7pm – 9pm and both have daily soups, salad, cold meats and cheese, fish and meat dishes, pasta, rice, chips, breads and desserts.
Snacks are 10.30am – 12pm, 3pm – 6.30pm and 10pm – 11.30pm. We only went for snacks a couple of times and there was hot foods like chips, burgers and chicken nuggets.
There are always plenty of choices at each meal and there was never a day when there wasn’t something we could eat. The food isn’t always hot and after a week is quite repetitive. A couple of times the choices were mislabelled. The dessert area is definitely worth checking out each meal and is a real highlight of the food at H.Top Royal Sun hotel.
H.Top Royal Sun hotel – the entertainment
The hotel does have entertainment through the day and night, although we don’t usually have much to do with the entertainment when we’re on holiday.
On a night there is a kids disco and then things like bingo, quizzes or acts to watch. We did hear the entertainment calling for people to join in with things through the day too.
As the weather was so bad for the week we were there I do think it probably spoilt what the entertainment usually do through the day. We saw things like indoor games and crafts and nail painting.
The indoor bar has large screens and a few times when we were in the hotel in the day the football was on. Again I think this was probably due to the weather and the fact everyone was indoors wanting something to do.
H.Top Royal Sun hotel – the complex
The H.Top Royal Sun is a large, high rise hotel complex and is right on the Santa Susanna beach.
There are two swimming pools with lots of sun loungers and sunbathing areas. There are no sun loungers on the beach but you can hire them from the beach workers.
The outdoor, pool bar at the front of the hotel has a seating area. It’s nice sitting here by the sea watching the world go by.
The Santa Susanna beach the hotel stands on is lovely. The sand is quite gravelly but it is flat. On a sunny day it looks so pretty and picturesque.
H.Top Royal Sun hotel review – final thoughts
We like the H.Top Royal Sun hotel in Santa Susanna. The hotel is clean and comfortable and has everything we need for a 1 week stay.
The food, for a budget all inclusive hotel, is perfectly fine just repetitive after a few days. If you are all inclusive at one H.Top hotel you can use the other hotels too, including for meals if you let reception know the day before. This is great, if like us you usually head out for the day exploring. The hotel will also make up a picnic lunch for your with notice too.
Being there during bad weather means we had to spend a lot more time that we would normally inside the hotel. Had I have known this would happen I might have chosen somewhere with more to do through the day. But, how often do you have almost a full week of torrential rain and howling winds in Spain?
All of the staff in the hotel are lovely, from the receptionists, to the cleaners, to the bar and kitchen staff. The receptionists have loads of information about the area, train timetables or things to do.
A few downsides to the H.Top Royal Sun hotel are, whilst it is very clean, it is very dated. Very 70’s decor throughout which in some places makes it seem quite dark and gloomy. Hiring the safe for the week is very expensive, 38 Euros for one week. I don’t mind paying 20 Euros or so but 38 does seem a bit much! I dislike that the hotel only uses disposable plastic cups for drinks, whether inside or outside. We all know we need to be cutting down on our plastic usage and this seems very wasteful.
All in all we enjoyed our stay here and whilst we probably wouldn’t go back to Santa Susanna again (we never go to the same place twice) I would stay in a H.Top hotel again.
