Last week we were invited down to Chiquito Leeds White Rose to try out their food. We have eaten at Chiquito in the past but never at their new White Rose Centre branch.

The new Chiquito Leeds White Rose branch is a gorgeous venue. Large, light and airy with wooden flooring and panelling, brick walls and obligatory sombreros.

I really love the finishing touches in the venue like fairy light lit branches and ceiling lighting and decorations.

Chiquito Leeds White Rose – The food

For my started from Chiquito Leeds White Rose I have the halloumi skewers. These are grilled halloumi, peppers and onions skewers with a citrus salad and salsa. It is perfect portion size for a starter. The halloumi is perfectly grilled and the onion and peppers go perfectly with it. The salsa is fresh and tasty but has a hot kick to it. I really love the citrus salad. Usually side salads are quite nondescript but it is SO tasty. It will make a great spring and summer starter dish.

Ellie has the Tortilla chips and dips, tortilla chips with salsa and sour cream. Again it is a great portion size and would make a good sharing starter. The tortilla chips are fresh and crispy with no broken pieces. Both dips are really tasty and the sour cream cools down the heat from the salsa.

For my main I have the pulled pork tacos, which are from the new menu, along with a side of skin on fries. Three crispy corn tacos with pork, rice, beans, mozzarella and jalapeño sauce. Each taco has a really generous filling of pork, rice and beans and is really tasty. They are incredibly filling, especially if you accompany them with fries like me!

Ellie has the classic beef chilli with a garlic tortilla. The chilli comes with rice, nachos and sour cream. It is fairly hot but cools down once you stir the sour cream through. The spicy rice is especially nice and I was happy to finish off what Ellie couldn’t manage.

After the starters, mains and sides we were both really full. But of course manage to squeeze down a dessert to share. We have the churros which come with chocolate dipping sauce and strawberry. The churros are crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle and have a good sprinkle of cinnamon. The chocolate sauce is heavenly, it’s rich, thick and creamy. I could quite happily eat the sauce by the spoonful.

Chiquito Leeds White Rose – Final thoughts

Both me and Ellie love the food at Chiquito Leeds White Rose Centre. It is tasty and cooked perfectly. The staff in the restaurant are all lovely, really attentive and seem passionate about their food and menu. And the restaurant itself is a gorgeous venue to eat.

Chiquitos do have a brunch menu that I would love to try next. It has a range of food from traditional English to Mexican bravos.
