What’s your favourite meal? Mine has to be the good old British roast dinner. There’s nothing more comforting for me than a roast joint of meat, crispy roast potatoes, yorkshire puddings and lashings of gravy. Unfortunately for me Ellie isn’t too keen on roast dinners so it’s not something I cook often. Recently we went along to The Calverley Arms, Leeds for a family meal out. This is a perfect location for us as I can have my roast and Ellie can have something different.

The Calverley Arms, Leeds is on the outskirts of Leeds towards Pudsey and is a really pretty, rural location. The pub is a beautiful building from the outside and inside is just stunning. It’s really rustic and traditional. There are big, open log fires, comfy chairs and lots of wooden features.

The Calverley Arms, Leeds – Starters

The Calverley Arms has a large choice for starters and there is something for everyone on there, including sharing platters. As we knew we were having a big meal we got a starter to share between us. We have gone for the handmade dough sticks which come with¬†garlic butter, pesto and chipotle chilli mayonnaise for dipping. This isn’t a sharing starter but there is more than enough for two.

I obviously have a roast dinner, the roast sirloin on beef. It comes with roast potatoes, yorkshire pudding, roast parsnips, cabbage and carrots. I love the gravy is on the side you so can add as much or as little as you like. I like my Sunday dinner swimming in gravy and there is more than enough for me.

The sirloin is beautiful and melts in the mouth. The potatoes are crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. The yorkshire pudding and vegetables are all cooked perfectly. My only criticism is I would like another slice of meat as I only have three small slices.

Ellie has the British beef burger with cheese. This comes with onion rings, chips and barbecue sauce. The portion size is huge and Ellie really enjoyed it all.

The Calverley Arms, Leeds – final thoughts

Both me and Ellie loved our meal at The Calverley Arms, Leeds. The pub itself is beautiful and in a gorgeous location and the food is really good too. This was our first time visiting but we will  hopefully be back to try more dishes soon.
