Even as an adult I love having an advent calendar, almost as much as Ellie. There’s nothing quite like counting down to Christmas by opening doors on an advent. Of course I really like the bite size piece of chocolatey goodness too! Nowadays more and more people are looking for alternative advent calendars too. I have had a wax melt advent calendar the last couple of years which I love. For a few years now I have been making Ellie an advent calendar (I will be sharing that very soon) so she can have her own, personal, advent that I know she loves.
Alternative advent calendars – Homemade advents
If, like me, you make your own advent having something to put the 24 presents in is nice. You can get all different sizes, shapes and materials depending on what is in your advent.
These red drawstring pouches will save wrapping and look super festive too. You can put each individual present in a pouch and put them all in a Christmas gift bag as a budget friendly option. A lucky dip style rummage in the gift bag each morning will be lots of fun.
This quilted advent calendar is the perfect size for smaller gifts. It will look amazing hung on the wall too.
A wooden advent can be stood up on a shelf, mantle piece or window sill. This one is perfect for smaller size gifts too.
Alternative advent calendars – For food and drink lovers

A Pimp Your Gin gin botanicals advent is the perfect gift for any gin connoisseurs. I’m a huge gin fan and would love to experiment with different botanicals and create new tastes.
Some Christmasy chocolate squares are a great item for putting in to a fabric or wooden advent. At just £5.99 they are budget friendly too.
Gingerbread is my favourite Christmas food so I am in love with this Iced Gingerbread Advent from John Lewis. At £15 it is really budget friendly too.
I am a huge fudge fan so this fudge-vent advent calendar is perfect for me. A different flavour of fudge every day is my idea of heaven!
Alternative advent calendars – For beauty lovers
The Charlotte Tilbury Naughty & Nice Magic Box advent is on every beauty lovers alternative advent calendar wishlist. At £150 for 12 days it is expensive but the products inside will be amazing.
The 24 Days of Beauty advent from The Body Shop is £45 for £88 worth of products. Everyone loves The Body Shop so this is a great alternative advent calendar.
Back in my nail blogging days the Ciate advent calendar is something I had each Christmas. It is perfect for nail and beauty lovers and is a great why to test out different colour and finish nail polishes.
I currently have my eye on the L’occitan advent calendar. I have tried a few products from this brand and really like them. This beauty advent would be a great way to try some more things.
Ever since Boots first started stocking NYX I have been obsessed with their lip products. The NYX Professional Lippie Countdown is one beauty advent I need to have this year.
Ellie always comments on the Make Up Revolution advent every year. It is a great budget beauty advent calendar and really popular with fans of the brand and teenagers.
