I have a confession to make today. If you have seen my music posts you will already know I am a huge punk rock / indie / emo fan. Pretty much everything about my look gives that away too. But I have a secret! Punk rock didn’t always have my heart, it was taken 25 years ago by a boyband. From just 10 years old I have loved Take That. When I say love I pretty much mean I obsess over. I’ve been to every tour (often more than once!), camped out for tour tickets in the days before Ticketmaster, I have every single, album, DVD (and video!) and book they have ever released. I even have the dolls….still in their original boxes of course *hides head in shame*. So of course I had to get tickets to the Take That Wonderland tour.

On Monday afternoon me and my friends set off excitedly up to Newcastle. Standing tickets and getting there early meant we had a great position close to the circular stage in the middle of the arena.

All Saints are supporting Take That on tour this time. They came out at around 7.30pm. I didn’t follow All Saints so wasn’t expecting much from them. They are good though! I knew more songs that I thought I would and found myself singing along.

At 8.30pm Take That finally came out and finally the Take That Wonderland tour was starting. After spotting a bit of a gap I couldn’t help leaving my friends and squeezing myself into it right at the very front. I had THE most amazing view and still can’t believe how close I was! Even though I’m a 35 year old mum now the second they set foot on stage I instantly revert back in to my 14 year old self again.

Take That are known for their huge stage productions and the Wonderland tour is just as good as all their previous tours. Whether you are a Take That fan or not it is amazing to watch. My mum often comments how much she used to enjoy the shows when she took me in the ’90s. I won’t give away any spoilers but as always there are lots of surprises during the show. The Wonderland dancers are absolutely stunning to watch (if you can tear your eyes away from Take That of course!)

Take That play a lot of the new Wonderland album and mix in the old fan favourites and the songs they couldn’t not perform now. Except they still haven’t put A Million Love Songs back into the setlist.

I won’t share the 2000+ photographs (of mainly Mark Owen) that may or may not be in my camera roll. But these are my favourites of the night.

  1. What an experience! The atmosphere must have been electric. I have never seen Take That live but I would love to get the opportunity. You were lucky to get to the front and take those great pics.

  2. I have to admit that I didn’t know Take That were still going! I don’t know many of their songs but I imagine they’d be good live. I quite like The Flood and Rule the World from this set list 🙂

    Louise x

  3. Growing up I loved West life and boys II men which are high bast now lol so only listen to their old records. Glad you had fun at the take that tour

  4. I really want to see Take That when their show hits London next month but there’s only rubbish seats left so I might have to see if I can get something last minute x

  5. I didn’t know that Take That have reunited and they are touring at the moment. I wasn’t a fan when I was a teen but I do remember they were on the cover of all music magazines.

  6. Looks like you got a good place to watch them from. This would be my nightmare as i have a phobia (well general dislike) of Gary Barlow. (and I hate butterflies so that poster is hard to look at!!!) I was a huge TT fan in the early 90s but I think it was my love of Robbie that won me over cos as soon he left I was nar. Then when Marky won celeb BB I was ok lets try them again but it’s GB that makes me angry to look at him or when I hear him. I feel like I might have gone ott on this comment. Glad you had a good time and I might be the only person who isn’t jealous!!!

  7. What a fantastic time you had! I haven’t been lucky enough to see Take That, however I have seen Gary Barlow and he was just simply amazing! You really can’t beat live music x

  8. Your post made me smile! When I was younger I remember seeing U2 and the Rolling Stones in concert. (Lots of other bands, but they were my favorites) There’s nothing like seeing your favorite bands perform live. It’s an experience you never forget!

  9. I know so many take that fans!! I myself don’t really dig the whole boy band craze but I can see why a concert would be fun!

  10. I was obsessed with Take That as a teen. They were the first proper boys’ band and I would love to see them live. Sounds like you had an amazing time!
