This weekend me and my bestie had a girls night out at Veeno, Leeds for their Selezione wine tasting. I have visited a Veeno before for a blogging event and have been dying to go back and try it again. Especially in a much more relaxing setting whilst the bar is open to customers. The Selezione Italian wine tasting at Veeno Leeds is a tasting of 6 wines and accompanying spuntini.

Italian wine tasting at Veeno Leeds – Timpune Sicani Grillo with mozzarella di bufala

The first wine is Timpuni Sicani Grillo and its pairing mozzarella di bufala. This is Veeno’s driest white wine. The wine is dry and oaky. The mozzarella is super creamy and delicious. Dry wine isn’t my favourite but I do like this one. I think the creamy mozzarella takes away some of the dryness.

The Grillo is my friends favourite of the two white wines.

Italian wine tasting at Veeno Leeds Corte Ferro Sicani Zibibbo with pecorino

The second pairing is the Corte Ferro Sicani Zibibbo with pecorino cheese. Veeno call this the wine of love. It is a light, smooth and fruity wine. The pecorino cheese is a strong sheep cheese and the perfect accompaniment.

The Zibobbo is my favourite of the white wines.

Italian wine tasting at Veeno Leeds Tasari Sryah with speck

Next at the Selezione Italian wine tasting is the Tasari Syrah with speck. This is Veeno’s house rose wine. The wine is fresh and fruity and the speck smoke ham is salty and smokey. They pair together so perfectly.

This is one of my favourites of all of the wines on the night.

Italian wine tasting at Veeno Leeds Sachia Sicani Perricone with bresaola

The next course is the Sachia Sicani Perricone with bresaola. Veeno say this is for experts only. It is a rich, red fruit wine with an almost liquorice taste. The bresaola salt beef is salty and chewy. They go together perfectly.

The Perricone is both mine and my friends favourite wine of the night. I definitely have a new fave wine and will need to get this whenever I need to take a bottle somewhere!

Italian wine tasting at Veeno Leeds – Cutaja Le Selezioni Nero d’avila Riserva with gorgonzola

Next up in the Italian wine tasting at Veeno Leeds is the Cutaja Le Selezioni Nero d’avila Riserva with gorgonzola. This is Veeno’s richest wine. The Nero d’Avola Riserva is a rich, spicy, fruity red wine. The gorgonzola with rocket and walnut is rich and creamy and works really well with the wine.

This was another favourite from the wines of the night for both me and my friend.

Italian wine tasting at Veeno Leeds – Tagos with tiramisu

Our last pairing is Tagos with tiramisu. Tagos is a sweet dessert wine (sherry) with homemade, creamy and sweet tiramisu. Whilst dessert wine isn’t something I usually drink this is a nice end to the night. The tiramisu is amazing, I will definitely return to Veeno just for this!

Italian wine tasting at Veeno Leeds – Final thoughts

Both me and my friend loved our night at Veeno. It’s a brilliant, central venue with friendly knowledgeable staff.

The Selezione Italian wine tasting at Veeno Leeds is a brilliant way to spend a few hours. Whether you are a huge wine connoisseur, would like to just try new things or looking for a different night out it will be perfect. It is a great idea for a girls night out, date night or a mum and daughter date.

Each wine serving is 70mls which is a very generous tasting measure and there is a great variety of wines.

The spuntini platter of food is huge, it is all really tasty and fresh. I love that as well as each wine pairing there is bread, crackers and oils too.

Veeno have bars all over the UK so if there is one near you I definitely recommend booking a table.

  1. I’ve never been to a wine tasting event before, but think this is something that I would genuinely enjoy.
