For my birthday last week one of my friends took me and Ellie out for a surprise meal to one of my favourite restaurants, Sambuca Italian restaurant in Morley, Leeds.

As it was mid-week the restaurant was pretty quiet so there was no need to book and we didn’t have to wait to be seated. The waiter took our drink orders then left us with freshly made bread and butter to eat whilst we looked through the menu and decided what we all wanted.

For starters Ellie chose Mozzerala in Carrozza (deep fried mozzarella in a tomato sauce), Darren had muscles in creamy sauce from the specials board and I chose the bruschetta. The starters arrived fairly quickly, they were huge portions for a starter and they all looked and smelt incredible! My bruschetta was gorgeous, it had just the right amount of onion, tomato and garlic. Ellies mozzarella was also delicious (I regretted not getting that myself) and went perfectly with the tomato sauce. I didn’t try the muscles as I just don’t like them but they were also really nice apparently.

After we had finished our starters the plates were cleared and we were asked if we were ready for the mains or if we wanted to wait a bit which I thought was a really nice touch. For the main course Darren chose the Filleto Sambuca (fillet steak with garlic butter sauce) , Ellie chose the Pizza Margherita and I chose the Tortelloni Sambuca (spinach and ricotta ravioli with basil and garlic sauce). All three meals came out perfectly cooked and as we’d ordered them. I had a taste of everything and it was all delicious.

Even though we were all full to bursting we had to order some desserts too….and as we couldn’t decide what we wanted we ordered 4! We ordered creme brûlée profiteroles, cheesecake and tiramisu. All 4 were heavenly. Darren had managed to sneakily tell the restaurant it was my birthday so when they brought the desserts my creme brûlée had a candle in and the entire restaurant sang Happy Birthday to me….I’m going to be honest I was pretty mortified lol!

After our meal we were given free shots of limoncello and sambuca which was very kind, though did nothing for my head the next morning at work!

I really loved my night here, the restaurant and its staff are lovely and the food was amazing.

If ever you are in or near Leeds and wanting somewhere to eat I’d definitely recommend Sambuca .
